Are you optimizing your pregnancy?

Motherhood is a spiritual endeavor where the mundane becomes the exalted.

Emptying the dishwasher or taking a shower, in a state of profound gratitude, is an example of how to transform the challenging demands of early motherhood into a sacred offering. Doing laundry can become a devotion.

Often though, when Mom is exhausted, home life can be a source of frustration or break down rather than a place for spiritual awakening.

Pregnancy holds opportunities, often overlooked.

When you move through pregnancy as you normally do during daily life, possibly taking a childbirth class during the 3rd trimester, you’re probably missing an opportunity to establish a secure foundation for your family.

So often we’re on auto-pilot.

When you consciously shift your relationship to everyday tasks during pregnancy, you prepare  in a radically powerful way for what may come during labor and birth and the early days of parenthood, especially when you’re likely to feel vulnerable and unsure.

As a doula, what I’ve witnessed is that woman who bolsters her spiritual practice during pregnancy has faith in her body and the process, can manage unexpected situations calmly and is intimately connected with her partner.

Isn’t that what every mom wants?

Mindfulness

Mindfulness and the willingness to honestly examine your beliefs around birth and parenthood are 2 key practices that will center and ground you in your values, strength and resilience.

Mindfulness is non-judgmental moment-to-moment awareness, often through breath awareness, that ultimately elevates the quality of life. Observing your breath, you become present. Over time, cultivating equanimity is a skill every mom needs so she can respond, rather than react.

What conditioned beliefs can you let go of?

If you’re like most women, you have some conditioned beliefs and behaviors that could color your birth experience.  When you identify and evaluate your beliefs as well as your upbringing, you can make choices, aligned with your core values.  This requires awareness and also minimizes the risk of experiencing doubt and disappointment, particularly after birth, in the early postnatal period.

Early Motherhood Struggles

In my coaching practice, I hear from toddler moms struggling with anxiety and feelings of guilt. While it’s not uncommon, some of these issues could have been avoided with intentional prenatal introspection.

If you’re a new mom who’s struggling, support is available. So is transformation.  You can shift your thought patterns and behaviors.  You have the power to create the family you envision. In addition, by healing your birth experience and improving your communication skills, you’ll feel confident and secure and connected to your Self, partner and baby.

Why pregnancy is the ideal time to invest spiritually.

Pregnancy is full of change. It’s also a period of grace. By choosing to go inward, with love and compassion and putting practices in place, amid everyday tasks, you can create the mother, birth and family you desire.
